TAKAPUNA POLITICS

CANDIDATES’ ADDRESSES Mr. J. W. Williamson, the present Mayor of Takapuna, and the candidates on the "ticket” of the Combined Ratepayers’ Association, addressed a public meeting at Bayswater last evening. Mr. M. Blampied presided. The water problems of the North Shore boroughs were dealt with by Mr. Williamson, who said that the Water Board controlling matters was of opinion that the Hunua scheme of the # City Council was. the source which would most likely be utilised for the future North Shore supply. Mr. Williamson devoted some time to the letter in the Press, over the name of Mr. A. 11. Wilkie, regarding the latter’s attitude in the event of the land transport service being placed under offer to the borough. Mr. Williamson said he had been misreported at his initial meeting. What he had said was not that Mr. Wilkie would probably support such a proposal, but that, in view of his attitude on the tram purchase, "Plow are we to know what he may be inclined to do if the buses are offered?’’ A vote of thanks and confidence was carried.
