TRAMS FOR AVONDALE

MR. BAILDON’S PREDICTION AMALGAMATION ADVANTAGE A prediction that Avondale would eventually be served by its own tram service was made last evening by Mr. George Baildon in one of his campaign speeches. The meeting was well attended and was presided over by Mr. H. P. Burton. Mr. Baildon dealt with the principal platforms of his campaign, paying special attention to the outer suburbs which had derived benefit from joining Greater Auckland. Although Avondale had been linked with the city for only 18 months the sum of £33,734 had been spent on roads, as against £24,000 in a similar period under the Borough Council. Schemes were in hand to improve playing areas at Blockhouse Bay and the Rosebank Park. At the conclusion of his address. Mr. Baildon was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
