Airplanes Aloft In Cloudless Sky

PAGEANT AT HASTINGS i SEVEN PLANES ARRIVE Press Association HASTINGS, To-day. The weather report sent imm tlae Hawke s Huy airdrome at 9 45 this morning read: “The fog has lifted and there is promise of a cloudless day The •Wind is practically nil.” Visitors arrived in large numbers, and there are seven machines on the ground. Arrivals include Captain Bis--2? Il w- m n a . flshter; Captain J. F. imdlaj. Air !• orce Moth; Captain Chandler, Marlborough Aero Club’s Moth; Captain J. C. Mercer, Air Force Moth, accompanied by Lieutenant Climie; the president of the Canterbury Aero Club, Captain K. Hall, Avro Avian, accompanied by Mr. Wilson representing the Auckland Aero Cluband Mr. J. fchnith, Moth. Captain White, in the Hawke's Bay Aero Club’s Moth, is also present. Two Auckland machines are on the way. The giound is in tirst-class condition giving promise of an excellent pageant. The programme includes the New Zealand Light Plane blue ribbon for a cup presented by Mrs. VV. CJ. Stead, an All Transport race for a cup given by Mrs. VV. Richmond, a Show Race for a cup donated by Mr. S. I. McKee Care, and a bombing competition for a watch presented by Mr. Mason Chambers. A trophy known as the Kessell Cup will be awarded for the machine and pilot with the greatest number of points in the pageant. Three planes passed overhead to Napier this morning as a prearranged sign d that the pageant will take place. The Hon. J. G. Coates and the Hon T. M. Wilford, Minister of Defence, are expected to arrive soon.
