BETTER FIRE ALARMS
AUCKLAND INSTALLATION QUICK CHANGE-OVER EFFECTED Designed for use in large cki«e improved system of alarms has beea installed at the Auckland Central Fj Ti Station, replacing the original duple* system, after 10 years of service, wiii a larger and more up-to-date switch, board. An advantage of the new system it that it is particularly suited to undep grouud wiring conditions. The change-over was made durinr the week-end, no circuit being thrown out of commission for more than a minute. The new switchboard is designed to deal with 16 circuits »; though only 12 are in use at present The old switchboard has been transferred to the Remuera station, in th a Remuera and Epsom districts there are 107 street fire alarms and these win be replaced by the duplex alarms Thirty have been replaced already and the balance will be done in ttio near future. Superintendent w. l Wilson expects that the new ayiteni will be wholly in force in these districts in about 18 months, in u,. One Tree Hill district 30 duplex alarms are also being installed. Delivery of a new motor tender has been taken recently by the Auckland Fire Board, which now has a total efficiency strength of 12 motor vehicles, of which four are at the central station, three at western districts, and one each at Point Chevalier, Avondale, Parnell, Remuera and St_ Hellers. The new machine is to be stationed at the western districts station, and one of the machines there will be transferred to Point Chevalier to replace the engine in that su fbmp wsctjiw
