DEFYING POLICE
“HOOLIGAN” FINED £2 LEADER OF NEWTON GANG Described by Sergeant Dunford as “the leader of the Newton hooligans,” Leslie John Walding was fined £2 at the Police Court this morning for loitering in a public place. When the charge was made, Walding pleaded not guilty, and Sergeant Dunford said that he had told the man to move on. ITe had refused, saying that the police had nothing on him. “It will be Mount Eden for you the next time you defy the police,” commented Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M., as he imposed the fine.
