SOLD IN BUENOS AYRES
N.Z. FRUIT FOR RIO
BETTER MARKET SHOWN New Zealand fruit for Rio de Janeiro on the Pakeha has been sold in Buenos Aires instead, where South American importers were of the opinion that a better market was offering. rpilE New Zealand Fruit Export ConA trol Board has received a cablegram from Jose Peluffo and Cia. the board’s South American agents, stating that it has been considered advisable to discharge at Monte Video the whole of the cargo on the Pakeha originally consigned for Rio de Janeiro. The move was made because of the heavy stocks of South African and North American fruits at present held on the Rio market. The agents say they have acted in the best interests of shippers as the prospects at Rio were not as good as those at Buenos Aires. They state further that the fruit, although it has arrived in sound condition, is rather green and buyers are not greatly interested. They prefer to wait for the next steamer from which they expect to receive better-coloured fruit. Of the total shipment. 9.000 cases have been sold, prices realised being: Delicious. “Extra Fancy.” 229d: “Fancy,” 20s 6d: Jonathan. “Extra Fancy,” 3 7s 6d. The balance of the fruit has been placed in cold storage for disposal within the next few weeks. The agents in South America hold the opinion that the market is good for highcoloured fruit.
