TAUMARUNUI NEWS
The Taumarunui Hospital Board has declared the following levies on contributing bodies for the year 1929-30: Ohura County, £1,501 10s sd; Kaitieke County, £1,065 10s sd; Taumarunui County, £1,637 7s lOd; Taumarunui Borough, £B9O 2s 9d; Manunui Town Board, £94 13s 6d. Total, £5,150 4s lid. Ideal weather prevailed for the opening of the Taumarunui Golf Club’s season on Saturday. In the absence of the president, Mr. L. G. Godfrey, the season was declared open by Mr. L. A. Holford, one of the vice-presidents,who I extended a hearty welcome to old and new members and the visitors. Mixed foursomes were played, the match being won by Mrs. D. M. Simmons and Mr. A. W. Richter, with a net score of 48. Two very interesting cases were heard at the last sitting of the Tau- | marunui Magistrate’s Court, both ini formations being for breaches of the j gaming laws. Charged by Mr. W. T. Routledge, chief ranger for the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, with killing trout under 10 inches in length, L. Penniall. of Matiere, who pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, was fined £2 and costs 12s. Charged by the same officer with discharging a firearm in a bird sanctuary, L. Cleary and Alex Begg were each fined £3 and 22s costs. A race from Papakura continued the Manunui Pigeon Club’s programme, the contest being for a trophy presented by Mrs. A. Olsson. Results: J. Whittaker’s Rapine 1, D. Wilson’s Red Heckle 2, R. Patterson's Rustler 3. J. Lang well’s Transplant 4. The club’s next venture will be participation in the New Zealand Homing Pigeon Federation Young Bird Derby, the birds being liberated at Palmerston North.
