Cricket Manager Given a Knighthood
SIR FREDERICK TOONE BACK FROM AUSTRALIA (United P.A. — J3)i Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. Mr. Frederick Charles Toone, manager of the Marylebone cricket team in its recent tour of Australia, has been knighted. He also managed the English teams in Australia in 1920-21
and 1924-25. He lias been secretaiy of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club since 1903. Sir Frederick was born at Leicester in IS6B, and was educated there at the Grammar School. He was a county magistrate in Yorkshire in 1916, and he had been county adjutant of the West Riding Volunteers from 1916 to 1919. Earlier he had been chairman of the Horsforth Urban District Council; on the Commision for the Control of Crowds after the Wembley disaster. He played Rugby football for Leicester, and was a line all-round athlete.
