WHEN A. Julian was capsized " from Rolfe Audubon’s sulky in the Manawaru Handicap. he received a nasty knock from a passing competitor and remained dazed for some time after being removed from the track. Fortunately he escaped with a shaking, and was able to take his place behind Medusa in the Cup. Later Julian showed a good recovery by driving an excellent race with Great Ballin. For once “Tartar” was lucky in escaping without any broken bones, but he carries with him as mementoes of his daring deeds over country many marks of previous breaks and fractures. Trotting spills are seldom attended with the same serious consequences as attends those of the sister sport.
