Two Killed when Train Hits Lorry

SMASH FATALITY AT SHANNON Press Association PALMERSTON N., To-daq. A level-crossing fatality occurred at Vance Street, Shannon, this morning, when a motorlorry conveying Mr. J. Better and Mr. H. Tremewan, was struck by the Auckland-Wellington express. Mr. Retter was killed instantly and Mr. Tremewan seriously injured, the lorry being completely wrecked. Mr. Tremewan was conveyed on the train to Levin for treatment, but died before he reached hospital. Mr. Retter was In business at Shannon as a carrier, but his home was in Foxton. He was a married man, aged 40. Mr. Tremewan is a younger man, residing at Shannon with his parents. The scene of the accident was not far from his home.
