OPENING OF CHESS SEASON
TOURNEY TO BE HELD A tourney will be held for the opening of the Auckland Chess Club’s season on Saturday, May 4. Officers elected at the annual meeting of the club were: Patron, Mr. J. C. Grierson; president, Mr. R. Barker; vice-presidents, Rev. F. R. Jeffreys and Mr. J. F. Sullivan; hon. secretary, Mr. C. G. Lennard; hon. treasurer, Mr. F. Stubbs; director of play, Mr. R. Barker; committee. Messrs. G. Sale, G. H. Edwards, W. Kelly, and H. Roskilly. The prizes presented were: Club champion and gold medal, J. A. Moir,second prize, D. I. Jones. Intermediate level: H. Lees 1, J. F. Sullivan and A. Miller 2. Minor level: R. Drott 1, G. H. Edwards 2. A consolation prize was awarded to R. Putnam. Handicap: Dr. Friedlander 1, S. Coyne 2.
