POLICE FOR SAMOA
SEVEN DEVELOP SLIGHT TEMPERATURES NOT ALLOWED TO SAIL Because their temperatures were above normal when taken yesterday afternoon, seven members of the police party scheduled to sail for Samoa on the Maui Pomare last evening were left behind. Following Instructions from the Health Department, all intending passengers were examined after the vessel had put out into the stream. Then it was that the high temperatures were discovered, and the men were returned to shore. “The temperatures were very slightly above normal, but the step was taken to make as sure as possible that the Maui Pomare left Auckland a clean ship,” said Dr. T. J. Hughes, Medical Officer of Health. Expressing his surprise at the decision, Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, superintendent of police, said he had seen the men taking farewell of friends, and he w r as not aware until much later of the turn of events. The men would continue in routine work until it was decided what would be done. It was possible that they would be sent on by the Tofua, w’hich sails on Saturday.
