FRUIT-EXFORT CONTROL
BALLOT AMONG GROWERS NOT LIKELY BOARD VERSUS BROKERS (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Fruit Control Board has * decided not to conduct a secret ballot among fruitgrowers on the policy of the board since it was constituted by Parliament. Circles which support the board are disappointed at this decision, as the opportunity to allow growers to vote was an excellent one and the present circumstances are such that the board could take this step without placing itself in a false position, or admitting that there is any element of doubt as to the course which it has pursued. The ballot was favoured all the more because indications are that the clash between the board and the brokers is by no means ended. It ds prophesied that a determined attempt will be made this year to remove from the board the compulsory powers which now rest with it. Some members of Cabinet are believed to view this course with approval. The best answer that the board could produce to the argument that it does not represent the majority of the growers would be the answer of the growers themselves. Thus it is believed that the poll will have to be taken at a later date and in less favourable circumstances.
