OUT OF ORDER
MAYOR’S RULING IGNORED “You said it would appear in the next issue, and it has appeared. It's a lie!” Thus Cr. H. J. Cooper at the final meeting of the term of the Newmarket Borough Council last evening in describing a statement in a Newmarket newspaper regarding the purchase of a section in Osborne Street. The Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson: “I’ll have to rule you out of order. That’s not council business.” Mr. Cooper: “You stated in this council that it would appear. It was honourably bought.” The Mayor: “I rule you out of order.” Mr. Cooper: “I won’t take any notice of your ruling unless the council rules also. I think you have sunk pretty low when you threaten a councillor like that.” The Mayor: Any more business to be brought forward? Soon afterwards Cr. H. Mountain gave notice of a motion to rescind a resolution fixing the Mayor’s honorarium at £IOO. The motion will come up at the first meeting of the new council.
