NEW ESTUARY ROAD
TAKAPUNA AND NORTHCOTE NORTH SHORE PROJECT At last evening’s meeting of the j Takapuna Borough Council a firm of engineers forwarded a roading and locality plan of a proposed new road to j link up the boroughs of Takapuna and Northcote. The proposal is to con- ! tinue Dominion Street, Takapuna, ! over the tidal estuary, and to connect it with College Road, Northcote. It was stated that the gradients would not exceed 1 in 12, and that a much shorter route between the two bor- j oughs would be provided. The Roman j Catholic authorities offered the sum | of £SOO toward the cost, and Takapuna’s quota was assessed at £7OO. The matter was referred to the borough j engineer for a report. Takapuna’s contribution toward the j cost of administration of the War j Memorial Museum for the year ending March, 1930, is £167. The council ! resolved to support Mr. Aldridge, j Mayor of Devonport, as one of the con- j tributing boroughs’ representatives upon the board of management. FLORAL FETE ACCOUNTS Final accounts in connection with the floral fete held in December last were submitted to the council. Allocations of proceeds were made as follow: —Parks Committee, £34 5s 7d; Takapuna Municipal Band, £l3 10s; Takapuna Grammar School and Takapuna and Belmont Primary Schools, £ 2 14s each. Practically all the sums will carry a £ for £ subsidy. The council expressed pleasure at the amount realised by the fete. Alleging that sewage had been deposited on the adjacent beach since . the utilisation of the Black Rock outfall, a firm of solicitors notified that | their client would hold the borough ’ liable for all damage suffered in con- , sequence of the alleged nuisance. The ! letter stated that when the outfall was , working to full capacity it was reason- ’ able to 'suppose that the nuisance . would be multiplied greatly. The . engineer was instructed to investigate and report. On the motion of Cr. J. Davis, it . was resolved to rescind a previous decision to decline an offer by the r iyickland Gas Co., Ltd., to tar-seal r the gap in the concrete road at Bayswater. The company renewed its * offer to seal an ISft strip for a length L of 3l£ chains for the sum of £3OO, , and added a guarantee to maintain the i surface for a period of 12 months. Cr. Gould advocated rejection of the : offer, contending that a loan for a concrete road would be more econol mical. The company’s offer was ac- * cepted, Crs. Gould and Malcolm dis- ’ senting. the Internal Affairs Department, it 1 was resolved to endeavour to arrange for a joint conference between Devonport and Takapuna and the director of town-planning, Tuesday next being t the date tentatively selected. The Public Works Department sig--1 nified its approval of the plans and ■ conditions of work proposed to be 1 done in Taliaroto Park. The council ' resolved that members of the Taka--5 puna Ex-Servicemen’s Club be inf vited to apply for work on the scheme, ■ which will be under the supervision of 2 the Parks Committee.
