WEDDING EXPENSES
BRIDE, GROOM AND MOTHER-IN-LAW SUED BREAKFAST NOT PAID FOR (Special to THE SUX ) PALMERSTON N., To-day. A discussion as to who was to pay the cost of a wedding breakfast celebrated in Palmerston North was held in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when G. Steel, a Palmerston North pastrycook, claimed £8 9s from G. E. Hickford, a salesman of Dannevirke, his wife, Mrs. M. L. Hickford, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. I. K. Barker. Mr. Grant appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Yortt for the Hickfords. The case was heard before Air. J. L. Stout, S.M. It. was alleged that Airs. Barker had ordered the goods for the occasion and that they had been delivered on November 16. Mrs. Steel, in evidence, said that the account had been sent to Airs. Barker, but she replied that she could not afford to pay, and suggested that it should be forwarded on to Hickford. He, however, made a similar statement and the account was not paid. Airs. Barker had said she had received authority from Hickford to order the goods, and the entry had been made in her name. Gordon Edmund Hickford told the Court that he did not know his credit was being pledged, and he certainly could not afford a breakfast. The magistrate said that Hickford and Airs. Barker should pay half each, and later Hickford agreed to pay for the wedding cake, the case being adjourned for a week to allow the parties to come to a settlement.
