MEMORIAL CARILLON

BELLS FOR WELLINGTON DEMONSTRATION AT CROYDON (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.35 a.m. LONDON, Wed. There was a large and representative assembly at Gillett Johnson’s works at Croydon to inspect the Wellington Memorial Carillon, which is being shipped to New Zealand in a fortnight’s time. Mr. Clifford Ball played selections from Schubert,' Mozart and Mendelssohn, demonstrating the bells’ perfect range and tone. Sir James Parr paid a tribue to the bell-founders’ work, which was admittedly the finest in the world. He regretted that he was unable to comply with the request of the organisers of the British Industries Exhibition, shortly to be opened at Newcastle, for a six months’ loan of the carillon, w'hich would undoubtedly have been a great attraction.

The High Commissioner added that the site chosen for the tower was the finest in New Zealand.
