MOTHERING HUSBANDS

MR. JORDAN’S JOKE on “Industrial Conditions in Britain” at the opening meeting for the year of the Workers’ Educational Association last evening, Mr. W. J. Jordan told of the formation of a queer society at Home—a society for the protection of men from their wives. A speaker addressing a meeting of women, drew inspiration from the Victorian days when women used to mother their husbands. She asked all those present who were willing to mother their husbands to stand up. One figure alone rose. “Do you mean to say you are the only wife present willing to mother your husband?” asked the speaker. “Mother him I thought you said smother him,” said the lone figure, resuming her seat disgustedly.
