WAIUKU BUSINESS
TOWN BOARD MEETS (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIUKU. To-day. The regular meeting of the Waiuku Town Board was held on Monday evening. the chairman, Mr. J. J. A. James, presiding. A letter was received from the Municipal Association of New Zealand suggesting that the board should get in touch with the member of Parliament for the district and ask him to support the non-reduction in motor taxation, especially heavy traffic licence fees. After discussion it was resolved that the board was not in favour of any reduction in motor taxation, but favoured an increase in the petrol tax with a corresponding reduction of heavy traffic licence fees, in view of the fact that many vehicles were not used continuously. It was resolved to prosecute any person or persons dumping rubbish at the recreation dump, unless the by-law was adhered to. The chairman of the Works Committee reported that the board’s steam roller was working off several roads and that a blinding of sandstone had been used.
