SHOWERY WEATHER PREVAILS
Clockwork Wins Hurdles
THE weather was showery for tlie concluding day of the autumn fixture of the Avondale Jockey Club and the attendance was affected. The course was in good order. Clockwork made no race of the Hurdles, leading all the way to pay a double-figure dividend. Following are the results: —

Husband) 0 Won by three lengths, with six lengths between second and third. Time, 3.43 3-5. Winner trained by R. W. Lewis, Ellerslie. There were no defections from the opening - event, and of the 10 starters the punters expressed a preference for Kilburn £6ll and Komak £348, with Clockwork £142 at a double-figure price. Golden Wedding lost about three lengths at the walk-in start and piloted the field over the initial obstacle, well clear of Kilburn, Komak, Ramblin’ Kid, Boomerday and Potoanui, Pouri tailing off badly. Clockwork held an advantage of over eight lengths passing the stands the first time, with Kilburn, Potoanui, Boomerday. King’s Guard and Karamu, Komak haying fallen at the second fence when in second position. Clockwork increased his lead to a dozen lengths on the favourite along the back and turned for home eight lengths in front of Kilburn, who was well clear of Boomerday, King’s Guard, Karamu and Potoanui. Never troubled, Clockwork won by three lengths from the favourite, with half a dozen lengths back to Karamu. Next were King’s Guard, Boomerday, Potoanui and Pouri. with Golden Wedding and Ramblin’ Kid at substantial intervals. DOMINION HANDICAP Of £175; 7 furlongs. 2 ARIHANA (W. J. Katuscha, Lady Eustace and Otranto were bracketed on the totalisator. Eighteen came out for the Dominion Handicap, and in a good pool Measurer £716 and Arihana £702 were heavily supported, with some money for Archileen £534 and Sea Cob £286. Merry Mason got away badly, Arihana and Loving Cup shooting to the front smartly, being followed out by Mon Star. Liona, Archileen, Diamond Queen, Lady Eustace, Measurer and Gold Lily. Passing the five furlongs, Arihana and Loving Cup were together a couple of lengths clear of Lady Eustace (who then began to drop back quickly), Archileen, Diamond Queen, Liona, Gold Lily, Cat-i-mes and Sea Cob. The leading pair were still on terms as they swung into the home straight, but on their heels were Diamond Queen and Archileen, with Measurer, Liona and The Dansant next. At the distance Arihana held the advantage, and he went on to win handsomely by a good length from Archileen. who was again badly placed at the harrier. Loving Cup was two and a-half lengths away third and Liona a fair fourth, and then came Sea Cob, Diamond Queen, Measurer, The Dansant, Katuscha, Otranto and Merry Mason. drop to Royal Finance (£ 678) and Motere (£649). Gemlight was first away to lead Pellette, Lady Suzanne. Snow Plane and Bennie. At the end of a furlong and a-half Pellette took charge and led into the straight, attended by Lady Suzanne, Bennie, Gemlight, Snow Plane, Royal Finance and Motere. Halfway up the running Bennie shot up on the rails and he looked as if he would win, but Motere came away in a great run on the outside to gain the decision by a neck from Bennie, who was two lengths in front of Gemlight. Royal Finance was fourth, followed by Snow Plane, Pellette, Fairy Belle and Lady Suzanne. WAIT AKERE HANDICAP Of £225; 7 furlongs 3 BILLIKINS (fi. I. In a great betting race most support was given Good Boy (£782), Hipo (£751), and Billikins (£705). Lorient 11. dwelt slightly when the tapes were released, and Billikins went out, followed by Whaka King, Cynthia N., Mithra, Hipo, and Lorient 11. Billikins had a nice lead when they moved across the top, followed by Whaka King, Good Boy, Cynthia N., Mithra, and Lorient 11. At the home turn Billikins was out three lengths clear of Whaka King, with Good Boy, Sir Russell, Cynthia N., Mithra, and Lorient 11. following Nothing had a chance with Billikins ir. the run home, and he scored by a length from Mithra, who came with a great run to beat Whaka King by a neck for second place. Then came Good Boy, Sir Russell, Lorient 11., Hipo, and Cynthia N. Later results will be found in the Stop Press as they come to hand.
