WESTFIELD STOCK SALE i' WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. An aggregate yarding of approxii mately 700 head of fat cattle at Westfield to-day met with a hgKtly easier market. Best ox beef sold tip to 33s a hundred; best young cow and heifer made to 325. SjOUTH AUCKLAND graziers were well represented in the steer offering; the choicest quality lines coming from the Waikato. Several times recently considerable inconvenience has been caused by the Bay of Plenty train arriving behind tune, and cattle for the sale have had to bo rushed into the pens without water and looking far from their best, after standing sometimes more than 24 hours in the trucks. This happened again this morning, the late train bringing more than the usual quota. Th© result is decidedly unsatisfactory to sellers, and it seems that there is a need for greater effort being made to speed up the service. Th© quality of the beef offering was lair, medium weight steers predominating. A greater percentage of lighterweight steers than usual was yarded. Top price was secured for a line of big-flamed heavy prime steers on account of a Waikato grazier which mad© to £l7 ss. A. W. Scotting, St. Heliers, was the purchaser of the highest priced pen. Fifteen medium to heavy prime good quality steers, on account R. C. Morgan, Matamata, made from £l3 17s 6d to £l6 7s 6d. On© of the.choicest quality lines of the day came from W. Vosper, Cambridge. Medium to heavy prime steers, on account H. E. Reed. Waerenga, made from £l4 to £ls 15s. Fourteen medium weight to heavy prim© steers, on account L. R. W. Reid, Ohinewai, made from £l3 17s 6d to £l6 10s. Big-framed but not exceptionally choice prime quality steers, on account J. C. Rolleston, Te Kuiti, made to £l6 10s. Little of outstanding quality came forward in th© cow and heifer section and values her© were decidedly easier when compared with last week’s rates. Extra heavy prime steers made to £ll ss; heavy prime, £ls to £l6 10s; medium, £l3 10s to £l4 15s; light and small, from £9 10s. Toward th© close of the sale cows and heifers were showing a decline of from 10s to £ 1 a head on last week’s rates. Top price in the cow and heifer section was secured for a line of choice Prime solid young cows and heifers ©n account of James Taylor, Cambridge. The tops went to R. and W. ■Helleby. Ltd., for £l2 10s. An average yarding of calves saw well-finished vealers sell freely at late rates. Runners made to £6 12s, and heavy vealers to £5 12s.
