LOANS APPROVED

£18,500 FOR MOUNT ALBERT PARKS BIG IMPROVEMENTS Loans amounting to £15,500 under the Mt. Albert Borough Council’s parks improvement scheme have been approved by the Local Government Loans Board. A LETTER to this effect was read * at last evening’s meeting of the council. The hoard has allotted that sum to three schemes, as follow: Morningside Reserve, £8,500; Mt. Albert Domain, £1,500; Gribblehurst Park, £8,500. A term of 26 years was provided for repayment of the loans, but no objection would be raised if they extended for a longer period. The Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, pointed out that the scoria pit on the slopes of Mt. Albert was included in the parks improvement scheme, and that application had been made to the Government to have that area handed over to the council. Nothing had come of the application yet. The loan proposals would be put before the ratepayers as soon as the area had been acquired. It was hoped to hold the loan poll on the same date as the transport loan poll, May S.

The Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, advised that the department could not accede to the council’s request for new post offices at Edendale and Mt. Albert. Improvements will be carried out to the post office premises at Edendale, and it is anticipated that these will suffice for a few years. As to the accommodation at Mt. Albert, this would not be improved until business warranted it. The Mayor considered Mt. Albert was entitled to a new post office—less populous districts had been better treated.

It was decided to enlist the aid of the district's members of Parliament. The building inspector reported that 4S permits, representing £10,214, had been issued since March 7. Advice from the Auckland Institute that the council’s contribution to the War Memorial Museum amounted to £484 was received. Mr. P. Floyd was chosen as the council’s nominee fer election to the executive of that body.
