RELIEF IN BIRKENHEAD

FIRST MEETING OF COMMITTEE The Birkenhead District Relief Committee held its first meeting of the year in the Borough .Council Chambers last evening, the chairman, Mr. A. Hadfield, deputy-mayor, presiding. The good work that had been done by the committee was shown to be appreciated by the numerous letters received from those who had been helped. A committee of three, comprising Mrs. F. M. Taylor, Messrs. W. Darlow and A. Hadfield, was set up, with power to act, to ascertain the needs of the urgent cases in the district, and the secretary, Mr. G. Jasper, was instructed to write to the Auckland Commercial Travellers’ Association and to its local representative, Mr. T. Farrell, concerning the coming activities of its association in the way of a clothes drive. It was also decided that the committee should organise a local cash drive to x'aise funds to enable it to carry on during the winter months.
