ST. JAMES THEATRE

“HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS*’ “His Royal Highness,” a revue of intrigues and laughs now being played at the St. James Theatre, and featuring the most popular comedian, George Wallace, is finding full favour with Auckland's quota* of playgoers. Georg© Wallace, as Tommy Dodds, is a down-and-out New Yorker, who is mistaken for the King of Bretonia, who has been abducted from his kingdom. Ho is seized by soldiers of the court and taken with all good care to Bretonia, where he commences his reign. Tommy Dodds, rough and illiterate, finds unlimited scope for his humour when surrounded by all the pomp and show of the royal court. Vain endeavours are made to teach him court etiquette, but he fails miserably. After a short and hectic reign, the real king is found, and Tommy Dodds is dismissed- immediately. On his return to New York he tricks sufficient money from a “well-to-do” traveller on board the ship to set himself up as a pier cart tradesman. The final scene shows Tommy Dodds dressed in tiie most lavish garments, selling hot pies from his own motor pie-cart. The show features some clever scenes, including a railway smash which gives a real thrill. George Wallace, ably supported, by other members of his company, makes a show well worth witnessing.
