LYRIC AND GRAND

“RILEY THE COP” A comedy-drama based on the experiences of a jovial New York policeman at home and abroad is provided in “Riley the Cop,” now at the Lyric and Grand Theu I es. No two better comedy players could have been chosen for the leading roles than Farrell Macdonald and Louise Fazenda. Much of the action centres in Europe, and picturesque backgrounds have been gained by authentic scenes of Munich, Paris and Cherbourg. Mac donald, as the New York policeman, is sent to Munich to apprehend a so-called embezzler. He finds the youth, but is led a merry dance by a woman he meets He fights in every cafe in Paris, and money runs through his hands like water. His many experiences are among the most original and amusing ever screened. There is also a strong romantic element in the picture, provided for the most part by Nancy Drexel and David Rollins.

“Romance of the Underworld,” the second feature at both theatres, is the story of a night club hostess who breaks away from the sordid life and through courage wins happiness as wife and mother. Mary Astor and Ben Bard have t.he leading roles
