EXTENSIVE GAS LEAKS

COMMISSION WARNS LONDON (United Service) LONDON, Friday. The report of the Royal Commission ion the Holboru explosions of December 21 expresses the opinion that they were due to an ordinary leakage of coal gas from the mains, aggravated by a more serious leak which produced an explosive mixture. Although the evidence was not conclusive, apparently a Post Office employee who died from burns used a petrol lighter. The commission recommends that the Post Office authorities should provide an adequate and continuous ventilation tube and continuous gas detectors. It says there should be greater co-ordination in all the underground public services and that unless something be done the position will steadily become worse.
