RIFLEMEN BEATEN
THAMES CLAY BIRD SHOOT (From Our Own Correspondent J THAMES, Sunday. The much-talked-of match between the Thames Gun Club, whose shooting is done with the fowling-piece, and the Thames Defence Rifle Club, who uses the rifle, took place at the Gun Club’s ground on Saturday afternoon in a ten-bird shoot. The clay bird shooters defeated the rifle brigade by a margin of 55 points. Two of the losers failed to hit a bird. Next Saturday the rifle team expects to turn the tables on their opponents when they meet on the rifle range at Irishtown. Scores: —• Gun Club.—G. Shaw, 30 points: W. R. Smith, 35; A. Smith, 5: N. .Jonassen, 25; Aitken, 0; S. Sparke, 30; A. McDonald. 30; E. Thornton, 25; W. Sparke, 20. Total, 185. Rifle Club.—A. McLean. 30; R. Cameron, 30: A. Poole, 0; P. Trebilcook, 25; J. Hoole, 25; A. E. Pearson. 0; J. Morrison, 10; W. Wilson, 15; W. Gilmore, 10. Total, 130. In addition to the above match the Gun Club shot for the aggregate cup, which A. McLean won. E. Thornton and G. Shaw tied for second. The final shoot for the cup will take place in a fortnight’s time. In a six-bird sweepstake, N. Jonassen and W. R. Smith tied.
