STRAND
“THE SPY” “The Spy,” the mystery thriller now at the Strand Theatre, is another most fascinating story from the pen of the author of “Metropolis.” In “The Spy” the plot is laid in a great city of the present time, and the narrative is made more thrilling by the fact that all the mercilessness of modern mechanism is used to complicate the plot. Under an atmosphere of grouping suspense it unravels the battle between the Secret Service and a mysterious gang of spies. No. 326, the most talented man of the Secret Service, has been assigned to trail Haghi the chief of the gang. Haghi sends Sonya, a beautiful Russian girl, against his enemy. The two meet and tragedy seems inevitable. No. 326 and Sonya fall in love with each other. Haghi, foreseeing disaster, moves every power under his control for No. 326’s destruction. Trains smash into one another, bombs explode, poison gas finally makes the struggle superhuman. Who will gain the upper hand? "With breathless interest the spectator follows up the threads of this poignantly thrilling and intensely human drama. It is not to be wondered at that Mr. Fitz Lang, the world-famous producer, has given the world the greatest mystery and thrilling picture the stage or screen has yet produced. A number of supporting pictures are Shown, and an excellent musical accompaniment provided by the Strand Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Eve Bentley.
