MILFORD LIFE SAVERS
SUCCESSFUL SEASON The Milford Life-Saving Club’s season closed officially on Monday afternoon with a beach sports meeting which was also attended by a team from the Takapuna Surf and Live-Sav-ing Club. The Milford Club has had a very successful season and has been instrumental in effecting a number of saves during the summer. Rare keenness has marked the season's work and the standard among the 30 members has increased considerably, enabling a team to compete In the Dominion surf championships for the Nelson Shield, held in February. A four-man life-saving competition on Monday was won by the Milford Club on general efficiency and time, Milford’s beltman’s time being 3m 495, and Takapuna’s. 4m 11s. The teams were as follow:—Takapuna: Beltman, E. Mclnman; captain, R. Moore; lineman, H. E. Valle; patient, A. Gunn. Milford; Beltman, S. Bacon: captain, T. Hilliker: lineman, C. Bacon; patient, R. Fraser. A four-man relay .race over 100 yd laps was won by Milford, which also won the human chariot race. Takapuna won the tug-of-war with two out of three pulls.
