CRASHED INTO BRIDGE

MISHAP TO SCOW (From Our Own Cori'espondent) THAMES, To-day. The opening span of the bridge over the Kaihou River, between Kopu and the Hauraki Plains, was thrown out of working order at about midnight on Saturday. The sand-laden scow Kapua, owned by Messrs. McCallum Bros.. Auckland, crashed into the under-carriage of the swinging structure. The collision caused the electrical equipment, by which the bridge is swung, to be thrown out of action, and the span could not be closed. Mr. A. P. Grant, of the Public Works Department, had a gang on the job within an hour. It was 9.30 on Sunday morning before he bridge was open for traffic. During the meantime traffic was diverted through Paeroa. The scow was very little damaged, and went on to Auckland.
