“KANOWNA” SURVIVORS

FILMED BY PARAMOUNT The first film of the survivors of the ill-fated Kanowna to reach Sydney, was that obtained by Paramount. Immediately the news was received that the Kanowna was in distress an airplane was chartered by the Paramount organisation, which was to fly to the scene of the wreck with the cameraman as passenger, who would film the stricken vessel from the air. The start was to be made at daylight. Later, however, news came through that the Kanowna had foundered, so the plane was cancelled. When the rescue-ship, S.S. Makarra, reached Melbourne. the Paramount News cameraman boarded her and obtained graphic pictures showing the plight of the passengers and the hasty arrangements that were made for their acsommodation by Captain Raven.
