GOVERNMENT OF CITY AND SUBURBS CAMPAIGN TO BE LAUNCHED A largely attended meeting of representatives of local bodies and the citizens’ committee met in the Chamber of Commerce last evening to discuss the desirability of forming a metropolitan board to carry out the main function of local government in Auckland city and suburbs. Mr. IS. 11. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden, was in the chair. The Press was not admitted, but after a discussion lasting some hours, the following resolution which had been carried was handed out: “We affirm the principle of a metropolitan board and consider that the time is opportune to launch a campaign to bring the scheme before the electors for their support.’’ At the conclusion of the meeting a sub-committee was appointed to draw up a statement covering the proposals of the board and explaining its principles, This will be made public at a later date.
