LIMITED LATE AGAIN
PORTER WHO OVERSLEPT NEED FOR DOUBLE LINE The Limited did not reach Auckland until 11 o’clock this morning. There were several contributing factors to her delay. tablet porter at Waimea slept in and did not meet the train and the delay which followed altered the whole schedule. There was a delay of 65 minutes in leaving Frankton Junction, principally because of crossings. Although an attempt was made to make up some of the lost time on the run to Auckland this was made impossible by mechanical mishaps. First the steam hose burst and later on the air pipe broke. These had to be repaired before the journey could be completed. At this time of year there is a large amount of traffic using the main lines and any delay to one train throws out the others. Trains are scheduled to pass at certain crossings and unless they are there on time the whole system must suffer. These delays are proof of the necessity for duplicating the main line between Auckland and Frankton. Junction. When the Horotiu-Frankton Junction duplication is finished in about six weeks’ time the delays should be less frequent.
