ANNUAL MEETING OF A.F.A. NEW BOARD OF CONTROL The anuual meeting of the Auckland Football Association was Held in the Y.M.C.A. hall last evening, when there was a record attendance of delegates and representatives of various branches of the code. Under the new constitution a Board of Control now functions as the managing body cf the Association and confidence in the now defunct management committee was shown by the outgoing treasurer and chairman heading the poll, with three members of the old committee elected to the new board. Before the annual meeting was held there were preliminary meetings of the new senior and junior committees for the purpose of electing officers for the season, representatives on the Control Board, and members of the Grounds Committee. SENIOR CLUB COMMITTEE Mr. A. Menzies presided at the preliminary meeting of the senior clubs, and after some discussion the following officials were elected, subject to confirmation by this season’s senior clubs when the final gradings have been decided: Chairman, Mr. Don Miller (Y.M.C.A.) ; vice-chairman, Mr. J. Curran (Celtic), secretary, Mr. A. Insley (Onehunga); representatives to the Board of Control, Messrs. S. Drew (Trams) and E. V. Roberts (Ponsonby); member of Grounds Committee, Mr. Don Miller. ENTHUSIASTIC ANNUAL MEETING After the preliminary meetings there was a most enthusiastic general meeting, and the feelings expressed promise a successful season. The annual report and balance sheet was adopted without discussion, and a special vote of thanks was passed to the Y.M.C.A. for use of its premises during the past year, and a collection was taken up as a token of appreciation. To assist the New Zealand Football Association in wiping off its liabilities, it was agreed that a registration levy of Is each be made in the senior, second and third grades during the next season. A remit for the payment of fees to referees was rejected, except in the , event of a team defaulting without notice, when it will be liable for expenses incurred. The Tramways Club submitted remits that the selector or selectors enjoy the privileges of life membership; that affiliation fees be reduced by one-lialf; that the insurance scheme be extended; that club vice-presidents be allowed season tickets to Blandford Park. None of the remits was agreed to. A MILD BREEZE Before the election of five members for the Control Board was held the delegates of the Referees’ Association referred to the treatment their association had received last season, and especially from the chairman of the management committee. Messrs. Wilson and Kyle voiced the views of the referees, but Mr. R. P. Harrison appealed to them not to indulge in personal reflections against the chairman (Mr. A. Menzies). Mr. Menzies: I am not taking any advantage of my position as chairman to stop these personalities and you can take my word for it that if I am reelected and put in tl? % chair again, J am prepared to take iy coat off and clean up the stables wriich caused us so much friction and trouble last season. With this statement matters cooled down again and the election of five members to the Control Board from the 14 candidates offering resulted in the return of Messrs. A. Menzies, FI. Gribble, F. H. Baker, H. Reason, and A. Fletcher, all retiring members of the former management. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. Ernest Davis; vice-presidents, the Mayor, Mr. G. l3ailtlon. Commodore Swabey, Messrs. H. S. W. King, G. McMillan, L. C. H. Dawson. A. E. Ford, A. J. Parker, 11. R. Mackenzie, W. J. Jordan, M.P., and A. J. Harding. Mr. R. Takle is again the club’s nominee to the Judicial Committee, and Mr. G. Booklass has been nominated by the Referees’ Association. Mr. Alf. Baker has retired from the committee, and the Control Board will nominate his successor at its first meeting on Tuesday next. Arrangements have been made to open the season on Easter Monday, April 1, with a game between Kent’s, Ltd., and the Chinese combination, Tung Jung, as a curtain-raiser. Ponsonby will meet Corinthians, a promising team claiming seniority this season.
