ENTHUSIASTIC SPORTSMEN

AUCKLAND COURSING CLUB An enthusiastic meeting of the Auckland Coursing Club was held last evening, the president, Mr. F. O’Connell being in the chair. Inside half an hour, £7B was laid on the table either in cash or cheques for the financing of the club’s new course on the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s grounds at Otahuhu. Mr. T. Richards generously offered to buy the hares, and other big donations were made during the evening. The course at Otahuhu is to be fitted up entirely by voluntary labour, and the club’s judge, Mr. J. Wilkin, a man of wide experience in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, said that the course would be about the best in the Empire—better even than that of the famous Olympic Club in London. The secretary. Mr. W. Ratcliffe, stated that it was hoped that the course would be ready in about six weeks’ time, when the first meeting will be held. Mr. Ratcliffe stated that the club’s members now number 7S, which is a good start, considering that the club was only formed last November. At a date very shortly it is hoped to run a 32 dog race.
