SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT
WINTER EXHIBITION DISPUTE
TERMS OF CONTROL ARRANGED
Terms of agreement which are expected to prove satisfactory to the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, were decided upon by the Manfacturers’ Association yesterday afternoon, when a meeting was held to decide on the control and management of the Winter Exhibition. Mr. G. Finn presided.
After outlining the events leading up to the present position, Mr. Finn said there was no desire to create trouble and the manufacturers were prepared to concede certain things to arrive at an amicable settlement.
Mr. Dearsley said he understood from the president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association that difficult ties could be smoothed over if the tentative agreements regarding the control and management of the exhibition could be made binding for three years.
Mr. J. A. C. Allum said there had been misunderstanding. He did not think the joint managership suggestion was good. He paid a tribute to the work of Mr. J. Findlay, secretary of the Manufacturers’ Association, who, he stated, had done excellent work at other exhibitions.
On the motion of Mr. Allum,- seconded by Mr. Hills, it was agreed: (1) That the president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association should be president of the next Winter Exhibition; (2) that the president of the Manufacturers’ Association should be vice-president; (3) that the secretaries of the two bodies should be joint managers; (4) that the two bodies should divide show profits in equal proportions, and that the manufacturers should contribute £IOO toward office expenses; (5) that the exhibition committee should consist of 12 representatives of each body.
It was then decided that the exhibition committee itself should elect its own president and vice-president for 1930 and 1931, and also that the other arrangements should remain in force until 1931, provided the two associations agreed that joint shows should be .held.
