ONE TREE HILL DOMAIN

BETTER SANITATION GENEROUS OFFER TO BOARD The district medical health officer has taken exception to what he describes as the obsolete sanitary arrangements on the One Tree Hill Domain. The board has consequently obtained estimates for an up-to-date building to cost £3OO, and Mr. A. S. Bankart,, chairman of the Domain Board, has offered to donate one half the estimated cost up to £3OO. At last evening’s meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council the clerk of the Domain Board notified the council of Mr. Bankart’s offer and suggested that it donate one-third of the remaining half of the expense. The domain is under the joint control of the Onehunga Borough Council, the One Tree Hill Hoad Board, the Mount Roskill Road Board, and other representatives appointed by the Campbell Trust and the Government, and it was reported that its revenue was restricted to grazing fees and rent amounting in all to £174 a year.

Cr. R. G. Speight said that as the domain provided a playing area for a vast future population, and was largely used by thousands of children as a picnic ground, the council should pay its share of the cost of the proposed buildings. On his motion it was agreed to donate the required £SO.
