“BUGBEAR OF RUGBY”
WING-FORWARD OUT OF FAVOUR
The hope that a move would shortly bo made to eliminate the wing- forward from Rugby was expressed by Mr. H. Frost, chairman of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union, at the annual meeting last evening. Mr. Frost was addressing delegates on the questions raised in the annual report. He described the wing-for-ward as the “bugbear of Rugby.” Dealing with players’ insurance, Mr. Frost regretted that many players had neglected to join in the Auckland Union’s scheme, which probably had no peer in New Zealand. Mr. Frost made an appeal to the clubs to further the purposes of the scheme, and lie said that the union could not be expected to assist players unless the scheme was supported. Mr. Frost praised the work done by the Referees’ Association. Mr. J. Arneil, president of the union, who presided at the meeting, referred to the Rugby events of the past season. He mentioned the successful tour of the All Blacks in South Africa and the fair success of the Auckland representative team. He congratulated Ponsonby Club on winning the Davies Silver Football for the best performance in all competition grades. -A- motion by Grafton Club delegates that the Management Committee should consist of representatives of each senior club was defeated bv 44 votes to 11, Officers elected were; Patron, the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson; president, Mr. J.
