PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD
It was decided by the Papakura Town Board last evening to support representations to the Railway Department with the view to having workers’ tickets available on the 7.3 a.m. Papakura-Auckland train. Mr. James McCall presided. In reply to notices to remove blackberries, several residents complained that the board had been responsible for the propagation of the pest when spoil was removed from a section covered with noxious weeds to a footpath in front of their properties. It was decided that the board accept liability, and remove the weeds. Tlie board agreed to combine with the Manurewa Town Board in making representations to the Minister of Railways for the early duplication of the lino to Papakura. In reply to the board’s complaint regarding the effluent from the dairy company’s factory at Papakura being offensive, the company claimed that it had done everything possible to meet the requirements of the board. It was agreed to obtain a legal opinion as to the powers vested in the board to deal with drainage matters.
The works committee was asked to proceed with the repair of footpaths in the business area.
It was reported that authority had been received from the Highways Board for the tar-sealing of Broadway. Several ratepayers who claimed that their land was used solely for dairy farming purposes petitioned the board to have their properties declared as farm land, in accordance with amended legislation to the Municipal Corporations Act. and be revalued on a productive basis. Consideration was deferred.
