In the Market Place

L l POOR FRUIT SELLING IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED Some poor lines of fruit, notably in apples and pears, were offering on the city markets to-day. First-class lines were eagerly snapped up by buyers, but there were over-supplies of inferior apples and pears. By the time Easter trading is in full swing,, a general improvement is expected. A brisk demand for top-grade lines is certain. Tomatoes are meeting with a fair demand. Californian oranges are still selling at high rates. Te Kauwhata grapes have dropped slightly in pries.

Mushrooms are now offering on the markets and rates are fair. Beaches are meeting with a good inquiry. In the vegetable markets, potatoes have evened up in price. Green peas and beans are selling at high prices. Quotations: FRUIT Pears.—L.B.J., large, prime. 8s ro 9s; small. 5s to 6s; Paekham's Triumph. 4s to 7s; cookers, 3s to 4s; Coles, 5s to Ss.
