LOQUAT TREES ATTACKED BAY OF PLENTY DISCOVERY (From Our Oxen CorrespondentJ THAMES, To-day. A discovery has been made by Mr. J. Everett, orchard instructor for Thames and the Bay of Plenty district, that loquat trees are subject to the fireblight menace. Pie noticed for some time dead twigs on loquat trees, and suspected fireblight as the cause. Specimens were sent to the Government mycologist at Palmerston Isorth, and his sus-picions were confirmed, and since then it is definitely proved that the pest is fireblight. This is the first indication in New Zealand that the disease attacks loquats. of which there is a large number in the Auckland Province.
