SCOTS AS COLONISTS
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S PRAISE GREAT EMPIRE BUILDERS "It is sad that the Empire's gain ha* resulted in an influx of aliens who, i n some cases, have ousted the Scots fiom their native land.” said the GovernorGeneral on Saturday evening during * brief address to members of the St, Andrew s Society, of which he is patron. * His Excellency Sir Charles Fergusson referred in glowing terms to the value of the Scot as a colonist and the great part he had played in building the Empire. “Qo to Canada and you will find that Scots men and women have left their mark on the country. Come to New Zealand, and no matter where you g> the same fact holds good. They have come out here with all their fine characteristics. ‘‘W e in New Zealand can carry on the tradition and hand on those natural characteristics which have made the Scots what they are. and more particularly that characteristic of selfreliance, that feeling that what a man gets in the world comes by his own exertions That especially is what, we want to inculcate in our children.”
