CAUGHT AFTER CHASE
VAGRANT WHO BEGGED IN GREY AVENUE MONTH WITHOUT DRINK Begging sixpences in Grey Avenue was responsible for the appearance of William Anderson in the Police Court this morning on a charge of vagrancy. Anderson, a bootmaker aged 45, was described by Mr. F. K. Hunt as “a drunken waster.” He pleaded guilty. According to Senior - Sergeant O’Grady, Anderson had been told by people he approached in the avenue to go to the Army for a feed. The idea did not appeal to him and he said he was not interested. When a constable arrived on the scene Anderson bolted and was caught only after a chase. Anderson was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. “That should get the drink well out of him,” remarked the magistrate.
