(From (Jar Own Correspondent) Mrs. Tanton, of Melbourne, lias been touring New Zealand for some weeks, At present she is the guest of, Mrs. James Taylor, “Bardowie,” Cambridge. She leaves early in April for Australia. Mrs. J. O’Sullivan, of Raglan, is visiting Cambridge for the polo tournament. Miss Rita and Miss Anne Smith, of Invercargill, are the guests of Miss Roberts, “Quantock,” Tauwhare. CROQUET AT HAMILTON COURTS The Hamilton croquet courts have witnessed many interesting games during the last week. At the end of last week competitions for the New Zealand Council Buttons were played, resulting in the A grade Buttons being won by Mrs. R. Coombes, the B grade by Miss A. Jones and the C grade by Mrs. E. G. Scrimshaw. This week tiie champion of champions competition was most closely contested, the champions of the local team, Mrs. E. Bartlett, of Frar.kton, Mrs. R. Coombes. of Claudelands, Mrs. Salter, of Hamilton, and Mrs. Kibblewhite of Wliitioru, were the competitors, Mrs. F. Bartlett, the Frankton player, being the winner with four victories, while Mrs. Coombes and Mrs. Kibblewhite each had two wins. On Friday afternoon after a pleasant afternoon tea Mr. H. Howden, the i president qf the Hamilton Club, in a witty little speech presented the trophies. Mrs. Bartlett, in responding, spoke of the excellent organisation of the Hamilton committee throughout—particularly did she speak of the work of Mrs. lorke, the hon. secretary, and the members of the tea committee, Mrs. E. G. Scrimshaw, Mrs. W. Bern and Miss Earl. During the week many enthusiasts have watched the contests . closely. Among them were Mesdames McGonvell, Fenwick, W. Burrow, Cleary, (Pukekohe), O’Brien, Humbly, Speedy, Sansbury (Puketaha), H. White-Brun-ton (Matamata), A. Joll, Sayers, Evans, Webster, A. Curling, G. Bagby, Golisbury, Broekelsbury, Andrews, Rockell, G. Seifert, Wilks, Hodgkinson, Price, T. B. Dillicar, Turbott, A. Bennett, Salter, Honeyfield, D. Al. Masters, Yorke, Lamprill, W. Fraser, W. Hobbs, Jane, Seddon (Pukekohe), Mercer, McLean, Earl, Middleton, Clayton, Scrimshaw, Bern, Lucas Belgrave, Misses A. Jones, I. Jones, Earl and Williamson DANCE PARTY Miss Addle Brown was hostess of a gay little uance on Wednesday night at the Hume of Mr. Wynn Brown, 01 Fencourt. Time sped merrily, a good band gave bright music, and all were in holiday mood. Those present included; Mrs. W. Ransteau, Mrs. G. Kanstead, Miss M. Suuter, Miss G. Berteisen, Miss R. Souter, Miss Batty (Auckland), Miss Finlayson (Whangarci), Miss M. Hart, Miss H. Crowther, Miss N. Taylor, Miss C. Chitty. BRIDGE PARTIES Mrs. Frank Jolly invited some of her friends to bridge at her home on Thursday afternoon. Her pretty drawing-room was bright with zinnias and autumn leaves. Bhe was wearing a frock of black georgette, relieved with cream lace. Her guests were: Mrs. J. Gray, Mrs. J. Williams, Mrs. 11. J. McMillan, Mrs. IT. Mobbins, Mrs. l. Peacocke, Mrs. H. Haseler, Mrs, A. E. Cox, Mrs. P. Stevens, Mrs. T. A, Milroy, Miss C. Wallnutt and Miss C. Jolly.
Mrs. E. N. Willoughby was hostess at a bridge party on Wednesday afternoon at her home. Belladonna lillies and fragrant jasmine decorated her drawing-room. Her guests were: Mrs. j Reeves, Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. S. Eggleston, Mrs. Warren, Mrs. J. O’uraily, Mrs. Jenkinsun, Mrs. Steyensoil Mrs. H. E. Gaze, Mrs. B. Griffiths, Mrs. Hooker, Mrs. Russell (Cambridge), Miss Warren, Miss Ansford and Miss Davies (Rotorua). L. | Nixon and Miss Urann, organised a j most successful card party m St. An- i draw’s Hall, Cambridge. Much enthusiasm had been displayed beforeliquid and tlie liaii was iilled witn players. Mrs. Nixon was wearing- a frock of smoke grey and orchid geor getfe; Miss Branne wore a frock of black crepe de chine and lace; Miss Hart was in a period frock of ivory satin and silver tissue. A most lios- | pliable supper was provided by the committee. At the conclusion of the evening, the Mayoress, Mrs. r. I*. Richards, presented the prizes won, the bridge prize tor highest score to Miss Hart and Mr. Noel Johnson; the conso- | lation to Mrs. Osmond and Mr. Norris; i the "500" prizes to Mrs Hardy and Mrs. Davies; the consolation to Mr. and Mrs. Pearce. , Among the ladies present were Mrs. H B Nixon, Mrs. W.
