N.Z. LABOUR PARTY

AUCKLAND WOMEN'S BRANCH HOLDS CONVERSAZIONE

On Wednesday evening the members of the women’s branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held a conversazione in their club room, Tabernacle Building, when a most interesting and instructive address was given by Dr. J. P. Hastings on the Labour Movement. Dickens impersonations were given by Mr. T. Vivian and were much appreciated. An appeal was made by the president, Mrs. Harrison, for an increased membership for the branch. Several of those present responded by joining.

The usual meeting was held on Thursday evening, Mrs. Harrison presiding. Correspondence from the Prime Minister regarding free school books, and from the Hon. W. A. Veitch and Mr. Slaughter, concerning the Women’s Government Labour Bureau, was read by the secretary, Mrs. Soljak. The L.R.C. report was adopted and matters in connection with the forthcoming selection ballot, and municipal elections were discussed. Final arrangements were made for the two delegates, Mesdames Soljak and Cassie, who leave next Wednesday to attend the Labour conferences in Wellington. The date of the proposed jumble sale has been altered to May 6.
