VARSITY ATHLETES SET NEW RECORD

Two records were broken at the inter-faculty sports of the Auckland University College on Wednesday. J. S. Watt established his right to rank as one of Auckland's fastest middle-dis-dance runners by beating the half-mile record in 2.2 2-5. He had the race won from start to f i n i s h, and had he been pushed over the last 200 yards, would probably have put up even better time. O. R. Morgan, who set a new hurdle record of 16 2-ss, is a younger brother of two past New Zealand A.A.A. champions, H. D. Morgan and R. C. Morgan. As a schoolboy he beat Jackson Scholtz off six yards a few years ago, and last Saturday caused a mild sensation by beating the New Zealand champion, A. J. Elliott, off 4yds in the 150yds handicap. Both he and Watt will be to the fore at the New Zealand Varsity championships at Christchurch at Easter.
