TAKAPUNA BOROUGH
Amendments to by-laws dealing with areas of building sections and advertising hoardings were before the Takapuna Borough Council last evening. As amended the by-law provides for a reduction of the minimum frontage to 50ft, while a minimum area of one-sixth of an acre will be permitted. In the latter case, however, a minimum frontage of 60ft will be insisted upon. The alterations will be advertised and confirmed at a later meeting. The council made a special order amending the hoardings by-law. A special order was made authorising the raising of the destructor loan of £2,150. The term of the loan is 15 years. The raising of a further £15,000 as part of the £119,000 sewerage loan was also authorised. LAKESIDE SUBDIVISIONS The solicitors for Mr. D. R. C. Mowbray, by whom was recently obtained a writ of mandamus compelling the Borough Council to approve a subdivision on the lake watershed, notified that their client has lodged an appeal against the council’s last decision, that the plan be declined on the ground that inadequate road reserves were provided for. In terms of the Municipal Corporations Act the case will now go to a board consisting of a magistrate and two assessors. Mr. N. A. Duthie will act as assessor for Mr. Mowbray and a sub-committee will appoint one to act for the council. Cr. J. Davis was appointed a delegate to a meeting convened by the Mount Eden Borough Council to discuss the formation of a metropolitan board. In connection with the dispute between the borough and the Waitemata County concerning the final payment on the Inga Road bridge over the Wairau estuary, it was pointed out that the woi'K had been delayed by the late delivery of steel from England.
