LURID LANGUAGE
YOUNG MAN FINED £2 An outburst of lurid language directed against a man who he considered did not return liis greeting with sufficient cordiality, resulted in the appearance of Raymond Victor Lawless at the Police Court this morning. Mr. J. J. Sullivan admitted that one objectionable remark had been made, but asserted that his client had not said all that complainants alleged. .Senior-Sergeant O’Grady said that a man and his wife were walking home from Luna Park late in the evening' when Lawless had approached them and abused the man, threatening to strike him on the ear. Mr. Sullivan explained that Lawless thought the man was a friend, and was annoyed that his “Good night” was not answered as he had expected. In fact the man had used an objectionable term in speaking to him. “Where do you work?” asked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when imposing a fine of £2. Lawless: I pick up a day here and a day there. Mr. Hunt: You will do several days up there if you are not careful (indicating Mount Eden.) Mr. Sullivan: Give him time to pay and that can be avoided. Lawless was given a week to find the money.
