NEWMARKET WON’T PAY
TRAMWAY ALTERATIONS IN BROADWAY NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN The recent tramway alterations In Broadway, Newmarket, have been made In accordance with a plan approved by the Public Works Department, but not according to the plan approved by the Borough Council In April, 1923. This statement was made in a report presented to the Newmarket Borough Council last evening by. the borough engineer, Mr. A. Greville Walker. The Mayor moved that the report should be referred to the authorities responsible for carrying out the tramway alterations, and this was agreed to. Later, when the account for the alterations came up for payment, the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, moved that it should not be passed. Mr. Gregory moved that when the lines were moved to the position shown on tho plan approved by the council in April, 1928, the account should be passed. After further discussion, it was decided to defer consideration of the payment of the account until a reply to the engineer’s report had been received from the tramway authorities.
