DANGEROUS DRIVING

MOTOR-CYCLIST FINED (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. As a sequel to a collision between a motor-cycle and side-car and a motor-cycle on the Great South Road, between Mercer and Rangiriri on December 22 last, the rider of the solo machine, John Alban, of Auckland, made his appearance in the Pukekolie Court to-day charged with dangerous driving. Defendant was represented by Mr. Kells Mason. Harold Benjamin I-lall, of Huntly, stated that he was. returning home from Auckland on the machine with the side-car. When about four miles south of Mercer ho saw a side-car machine followed by two solo cycles travelling round a bend at a fast rate of speed. The machine ridden by Alban swerved to the right, striking his vehicle, which he had pulled in against a bank. W itness’s brother, who was occupying the side-car seat, was seriously injured. Constable G. N. Douglas, of Mercer, described the scene of the collision as being “the worst corner between Auckland and Hamilton.” The defendant Alban said the three machines in the party were proceeding at a speed of approximately 3 5 miles an hour. His rear wheel skidded. The witness Hall made a swerve and struck defendant’s mount. Alban was fined £2 and ordered to pay £ll7-4 2d in r-osts.
